Lanham's Auto Service
From the beginning.
Charles O. Lanham, also known by most, as Charlie, owner and founder of Lanham's Auto Service. In the year of June 1, 1979.
From a very early age of about 11 years old, I was mentored by my Grandfather, Cyril Rollings, the greatest influence as far as I am concerned. He was a Graduate Mechanical Engineer from New Bedford, England. After coming to America, his skill and talent was so renowned, that he was awarded many major projects. His business savy was also a major influence, as he was very ambitious, and in fact invented many things that are incorporated into our lifestyle to date. His accomplishments were an inspiration for me to follow in his footsteps. When I was very young, we worked together on projects as I was growing up, lending me the ability to learn all about the mechanical world, so when I was able to go out into the work force, I had quite a head start for being so young.
After working for several Major Fortune 500 Corporations myself, in the Automotive Service and Repair Industry. Also working a decade for Publix Supermarkets in a different non related career. It was always my ambition to own an Auto Repair and Custom Car Shop, for my main career, as well as my hobby turned career. Even while working out of the Corporate Automotive Industry while at Publix, I continued working on cars and motorcyles on a very large scale from my purpose built home garage facility. During that time, my skills in every facet of the business were perfected. I repaired and serviced numerous vehicles for customers, and also built, modified, and customized many vehicles also in this time. In summary, it's in my blood, and has never left.
For the past 31 years we have remained a technology based repair facility, placing a major importance to participate in all continuing Automotive Education and Training Sessions provided. Also, keeping trend with modern shop equipment and tools.
There have been many instances of time where the though has crossed my mind, is this change in New Technology ever going to end? As time progressed, it was quite evident that like everything else in life, this Industry is not going to stand still in time, in fact the opposite, Changes are so rapid and numerous, it continues to challenge us in the Independent Automotive Serive Business to keep current with all the New Technology. It is not my opinion that the consumer has any idea that all these moderinazation efforts by the Manufacturers, have created such a challenge to us to be able to keep pace. However , I for one continue to accept the challenge, and continue to keep moving forward, in hopes of many more years as such.
Cars, Trucks, Boats, and Motorcycles have always been my passion. But I have been blessed to learn and do so many other careers, but when at the end of the day, no matter what career I was involved, my passions remained automotive and motorsports related.
